Members Helping Members is a Newcomers of Catawba Valley program that provides support and assistance to members. The focus of the committee is to coordinate assistance for members and their immediate families who need help and support due to such things as illness, surgery, hospitalization, death, or other problems. The committee serves as the central contact between families needing assistance and Newcomers. They contact any recommended member to get approval before offering member support and to identify what type of assistance is needed. Once specific assistance is identified and approved by the family, the committee sends out requests to the membership. Examples of the types of assistance include hospital and home visits; help with errands and grocery shopping; transportation for shopping and doctor visits; providing books and/or reading to someone; preparing meals; sending cards, etc. Monetary donations are excluded.
